  • Which Smart Digital Door Lock To Buy In Kuching?

Which Smart Digital Door Lock To Buy In Kuching?

With more than 50 models to choose from at our place, this is one of the MOST frequently asked question: Which one should i buy???

It you’ve met with our engineer or assistant, they should be able to narrow down till 3 best models that suits you.

How did we narrow down from 5+ models down till 3 models? Below are the list of criteria that we subconsciously use to guide our client:

    1. Door and lock suitability: Not all smart digital door lock can fit into your door. Even if they do fit, another thing to consider is the security. Firedoor, solid door, engineered door, premium plywood door, metal door, single leaf or double leaf, etc all have different internal structure and this influence the choice of lock type
    2. Required functions: Do you need biometric? Entry tracking? Phone unlocking? All sorts of your different needs that we need to know.
    3. Design: What design you like? Antique? Contemporary? Modern? Minimalist?
    4. Quality: Do you want to often change the smart door lock design to keep up with latest trends?(silent tips-this is Samsung)? Or you want a piece that will last more than 10 years?

Don’t be overwhelmed by the choice. And don’t limit yourself to one or 2 brands. There might just have the other brand that you really love the design.

Come to us if you need some guidance.

  • Your friend said you’re outdated (said it behind you, of course).

Your friend said you’re outdated (said it behind you, of course).

We remember telling one client this: “this lock is strong and durable” while pointing to a solid brass Italian made lock. He tell us “where got people buy this lock anymore, now everyone use digital lock”. Even though he’s the one telling us he wants a durable lock.

We used to sell a lot a lot those lock that we can say “durable till your grandchild will still be using it”. Mechanical door lock. Those using keys. Stainless steel lock. Brass lock. From England. From Italy.

Sold a lot of these locks. Abloy. Yale. Union. Olivari. Frascio. But not anymore. It’s not that we don’t have these. We still have these locks. But nobody appreciate them anymore.

Feels like Nokia 3310. Extremely durable. (Have you seen people making fun images of it? Compare it to a bomb, throw to you & you’ll die but the phone still alive). So durable. And the battery life? Heck, the charger will get dusty first and it’s still not yet recharging time!

Yes, so durable. What a powerful battery. But are you using one now? Of course not. Things change. The world change. The trends change. No matter how durable the product is.

    Just like the door lock.

All of us, willing or not, have to follow the trend of “no-key” or “key-less”. The car is already inside the trend. Push button start, instead of key-ignition. Smart-unlock door, instead of using key/ remote.

And your house door? Well if you still need to search for key when you reach home later, we have to tell you this: you’re outdated.

Even our client tell this to our face. He ended up with Schlage, an American brand of lock (and digital lock). Schlage invented the cylindrical lock, and are famous among locksmith for producing high quality & high security locks.

There is a saying among some locksmith: “Hardware store knows Yale, Locksmith knows Schlage”. Actually both Yale & Schlage are famous lock brands, but well, you know what it means.

  • Specially Made Product for You Only – Custom Made

Specially Made Product for You Only – Custom Made

This client an airline pilot, wants a thin and gold color keyhole cover (real term is escutcheon). A standard escutcheon is 10mm thick. Client needs 2mm below. Such item don’t exist in Malaysia. So don’t even think about getting it in Kuching. What’s the solution?

We have some close contact with a plasma-cutting factory. So the only way to go is to ask the boss to cut some few little pieces of brass plate for us. But it’s not that straighforward. This factory usually accepts orders in thousands and thousands of pieces. We want only 8 pieces? If not because of relationship, they might just get a broom and sweep us out! And we also have to supply the autoCAD drawings.

But anyway we manage to cut this really nice golden brass escutcheon for our client. We still have to do some surfacing and finishing for these plates. After install he will be very happy and also unique.

Thank you Mr Pilot. And, can you get us some free ticket?

  • How to see the quality of any digital lock?

How to see the quality of any digital lock?

One simple way to easily detect the quality of any given lock will be: THE WEIGHT

This is the number one rule for any locks. Good locks doesn’t cut corners on material. They use thick metals. Economic locks, however, tend to cut corners and use thinner metals, more cheaper material like ABS plastic, etc.

In the digital lock world, the heaviest is in fact the best built quality. How do we know that? Because we serviced and repaired and changed so many “lightweight” digital lock in Kuching. They simply not built to last.

What’s the heaviest brand? Baldwin (USA). Second? Kaadas (Germany) Third? Gateman (Korea)

Those brand that are famous and you have always heard of (Yale or Samsung)? Those are like Honda or Toyota. Famous, quite good, but not the best.

The best, are those seldom heard brand, like Rolls Royce. Like Baldwin. Like Kaadas.

  • The Most Affordable Smart Digital Door Lock

We understand, and that’s why we have some good value, high affordability models for him. Choices is not much, as majority of them are not of good built quality (China made). But some, we’ve tested, are of descent quality (usually Korean Made) with passcode and cards functions. Also comes with automatic locking.

  • Thief Nowadays Don’t Cut Padlocks Anymore. There’s an Easier Way

Thief nowadays don’t cut padlock. They cut the “ear”. That is so much thinner, softer, and easier.

Sometimes they don’t even cut it. They just take a plyer or screwdriver to yank it, and the ear itself will come-off.

That’s why we recommend to install a padlock armor, or padlock hasp protection if you have a grille. Padlock protector is either wrapped completely around the grille, or bolted through from the front of the grille till the back. So if your want to yank the hasp, your need to tear apart the whole grille structure which is definitely much much more harder.

Both type has their pros and cons depends on grille condition. To determine the best suitability, at least some photo view is needed. Even better if a locksmith can have a site visit to see the grille with our own eyes. That will be the best. Only then we can recommend the best type of padlock protection.

How about you? Do you use have some padlock “ear” to be secured?

  • After Install Digital Door Lock, We’ll Also Train You To Program It

After Install Digital Door Lock, We’ll Also Train You To Program It

It might come to a surprise, but majority buyer still thought we’re the one who do the programming for digital lock (only for Kuching, maybe?). So if they want to change pin-code or cards or fingerprints, they have to call us.

Which is really not the case. Digital lock nowadays are designed to be set-up and programmed by the owner themselves.  You can change your pin code everyday if you want. You only need to know certain steps which is fairly easy to do. We’ve taught a 65 years-old man how to do it, and up to now he has no problem to change the access mode. It’s very user friendly and easy to operate.

For that, after installation, we will spend some time to teach the owner how to program, change and delete access, and how to read the manual if they forget what we’ve taught them.

So worry not! You don’t have to call us everyday. (And we don’t want you to call us everyday!)
