FAQ 1. Which digital door lock model/ brand is good and durable
Up to 2022, we’ve gotten 10 years experience. Smart door lock brands that are good & reliable includes:
– Schlage
– Abrain
– Philips
– New Kaadas
– Epic
– Lockin
– Assa Abloy (no, not Yale).
So all other smart door lock brands are lousy? Why some good brand not in the list above?
– Bad support, no spare part. Remember no electronic lock is forever-no-need-maintenance
– High defect rate
– Cheap and weak material (70% plastic body!)
So how to choose if the brand non listed above?
A. Check Material:
– Go to dealership place. Use pen or nail to knock the smart door lock body. Listen to sound. If it’s plastic, then this is Red Flag
– Lift the whole lock (if possible). Compare then weight of few models. Very light? Is a Red Flag
– See the keypad. Gloss or Matt finishing? If gloss finishing, is not suitable for our Hot weather. Unless the gloss is Glass material.
– Try ask the shop about the material:
Aluminium Alloy: This is the weakest among all. It will break apart if constantly push/ pulled daily (which you do with your lock handles)
Zinc Alloy: Strong material and much better than aluminium alloy. Much more durable than aluminium alloy. But they’re still not the strongest material for a door lock.
Brass: Brass is strong, plus it has beautiful appearance of golden colour. Won’t rust and durable, this material has been traditionally used to product good quality locks for castles, historical buildings, etc. Many famous and premium lock company uses brass when they started, and remains with using brass as a tradition for producing door locks.
Stainless Steel: Strongest & longest lasting material for door lock. Period. Highest tensile strength, high melting point, high strength and anti-rust. But, still this is not the most preferable material for lockset.
B. Other users’ feedback.
– You can get this online. Search for google or facebook rating.
– For those lock with apps, read the apps rating from the app store
C. Warranty period
Length of warranty period reflect how much confidence the distributor has in their own product.
D. One-to-one warranty Red Flag
One-to-one replacement seems like a good deal. But any insider will tell you the opposite. It means this lock or brand has no spare part. So during warranty they will replace whole lock. After warranty if got problem how? Buy a whole new lock lar!
