Specially Made Product for You Only – Custom Made

This client an airline pilot, wants a thin and gold color keyhole cover (real term is escutcheon). A standard escutcheon is 10mm thick. Client needs 2mm below. Such item don’t exist in Malaysia. So don’t even think about getting it in Kuching. What’s the solution?

We have some close contact with a plasma-cutting factory. So the only way to go is to ask the boss to cut some few little pieces of brass plate for us. But it’s not that straighforward. This factory usually accepts orders in thousands and thousands of pieces. We want only 8 pieces? If not because of relationship, they might just get a broom and sweep us out! And we also have to supply the autoCAD drawings.

But anyway we manage to cut this really nice golden brass escutcheon for our client. We still have to do some surfacing and finishing for these plates. After install he will be very happy and also unique.

Thank you Mr Pilot. And, can you get us some free ticket?

  • How to see the quality of any digital lock?

How to see the quality of any digital lock?

One simple way to easily detect the quality of any given lock will be: THE WEIGHT

This is the number one rule for any locks. Good locks doesn’t cut corners on material. They use thick metals. Economic locks, however, tend to cut corners and use thinner metals, more cheaper material like ABS plastic, etc.

In the digital lock world, the heaviest is in fact the best built quality. How do we know that? Because we serviced and repaired and changed so many “lightweight” digital lock in Kuching. They simply not built to last.

What’s the heaviest brand? Baldwin (USA). Second? Kaadas (Germany) Third? Gateman (Korea)

Those brand that are famous and you have always heard of (Yale or Samsung)? Those are like Honda or Toyota. Famous, quite good, but not the best.

The best, are those seldom heard brand, like Rolls Royce. Like Baldwin. Like Kaadas.

  • Thief Nowadays Don’t Cut Padlocks Anymore. There’s an Easier Way

Thief nowadays don’t cut padlock. They cut the “ear”. That is so much thinner, softer, and easier.

Sometimes they don’t even cut it. They just take a plyer or screwdriver to yank it, and the ear itself will come-off.

That’s why we recommend to install a padlock armor, or padlock hasp protection if you have a grille. Padlock protector is either wrapped completely around the grille, or bolted through from the front of the grille till the back. So if your want to yank the hasp, your need to tear apart the whole grille structure which is definitely much much more harder.

Both type has their pros and cons depends on grille condition. To determine the best suitability, at least some photo view is needed. Even better if a locksmith can have a site visit to see the grille with our own eyes. That will be the best. Only then we can recommend the best type of padlock protection.

How about you? Do you use have some padlock “ear” to be secured?

  • After Install Digital Door Lock, We’ll Also Train You To Program It

After Install Digital Door Lock, We’ll Also Train You To Program It

It might come to a surprise, but majority buyer still thought we’re the one who do the programming for digital lock (only for Kuching, maybe?). So if they want to change pin-code or cards or fingerprints, they have to call us.

Which is really not the case. Digital lock nowadays are designed to be set-up and programmed by the owner themselves.  You can change your pin code everyday if you want. You only need to know certain steps which is fairly easy to do. We’ve taught a 65 years-old man how to do it, and up to now he has no problem to change the access mode. It’s very user friendly and easy to operate.

For that, after installation, we will spend some time to teach the owner how to program, change and delete access, and how to read the manual if they forget what we’ve taught them.

So worry not! You don’t have to call us everyday. (And we don’t want you to call us everyday!)

  • Digital Lock That Are Not Built To Last

Digital Lock That Are Not Built To Last

This broken mortise belongs to one quite famous digital lock company in Korea. Some Korean company make really durable and long lasting lock. But not this. Milre.

Even though we ourself did sell Milre also, but we will clearly explain to our client the pros and cons. Milre has some unique advantages over others, like twice longer battery life and really really competitive price.

On the downside, however, it is not built to last really long. This is not a problem in Korea, as Korean changes their digital lock quite often even before break down, in order to stay in trend.

But in Malaysia, we will use our digital door lock and squeeze everything out of it until it totally break down or lock us out. And for Milre, it will happen quite fast. How do we know this? Up to now, Milre brand is the highest number of servicing and lock-break that we’ve performed.

    (1) Majority component is Zinc Diecast, which is quite fragile. Upon any impact, diecast don’t bent or get dented. They just break apart. (2) And the switching component uses a lot of AB flip switch, which is known for less durabilityas compared to press switch. (3) Lastly the deadbolt mechanism is designed to be dependent on latch action for locking instead of motor. This uses really a lot of gear (zinc diecast) and higher possibility of failure.

Of course, not to say every unit is the same. If you happen to be lucky, or maybe if you use the milre in a really soft and careful way, it will still last quite long. But if you’re just “standard-lucky”, or use your lock in a typical Malaysian way, probably be good to put our number in your wallet.

  • Cheap Lock also can have 1-key-open-all

Cheap Lock also can have 1-key-open-all

Sometimes you just have some area that you need to lock even though there is nothing important inside. Like dog cages, kids barrier, etc. And if those area are not exposed to direct rain, you tend to get just some cheaper padlocks.

Problem is, if you have several of those padlocks, you will have whole bunch of keys.

We locksmiths understand your problem. That’s why, even for cheaper padlocks, there are products that can be programmed into one-key-open all, so that you won’t have to keep and label dozens and dozens of keys.

  • Your Friend Will Be Jealous Of Your House

Your Friend Will Be Jealous Of Your House

Just like you, couple of our own staffs use digital lock at our own house. We know the kind of response that it brings to our visitors.

Whenever a family or friends (especially with kids) we always heard they “wow look at this lock!”, Or the kids will say “wow mommy look at this lock!”. And they will start asking multiple questions.

We might think digital lock is pretty common nowadays, but that’s not true for Kuching. Actually it’s still far far away from being common. It’s still very rare and only a few privileged people started to use it.

As an owner ourself, we know the feeling of using one. It’s special. It feels cool. Like Tony Stark. And it feels safe that we will not forget to lock our door anymore.

What a weird thing that just a lock can give us such a feeling. No wonder it’s getting trendy globally.
