    Suddenly within the past few month we received quite a number of request for digital locks for home stay. Seems like homestay business is booming in Kuching. 

    Majority use Airbnb, a famous app founded by US company but is booming worldwide.

    We suggested many options, depending on their needs and request. 

    Some want total remote control like, don’t want to meet their client. So they need locks that can be controlled from the phone. They choose TAC system locks.

    Mostly want to meet their client and feel that it’s a courtesy to meet and pass them some cards or password. So they choose the model in the photo. (Maybe because of price factor as well)

    Common digital lock are normal, in terms of locking strength. Which is single bolt with a latch.

    But there are higher security version, with TRIPLE BOLT, like this.

    Just in case you do not have some common sense, more bolt means it’s harder to pry/ kick open. A single straight bolt, can be said is 100% pryable.

    Single straight bolt mortise locking system originates from Britain. A country which we know, comparable if not better than our neighbour Singapore. So safe. Just need to lock it for privacy purpose. Rarely you heard of a burglary case there, although it do happen sometimes. They just want a durable lock, with some safety. So there come a straight bolt mortise lock.

    In Malaysia? People kick, pry, break, cut, bent, rob. You can’t compare UK lock to Malaysia lock. Because we need higher level of security. Much higher.

    So double bolt will do better, and triple bolt the best. For Main Door, better add another lock on top of a main lock, be it digital or not. 

    If you do have some extra budget, get the one with hook. Even stronger than triple bolt.

    A plug and play digital lock, suitable for bedroom. Can be set to automatic locking or manual locking by touching the panel.

    This is the trends nowadays. In fact we did not push to sell this lock. Few walk in client specifically look for this, as they do not want mortise type. Just want a simpler and smaller type like this.

    Compared to mortise type, this tubular type is half the price, more battery life and less issue. But it’s also less secured. Just for privacy purpose.

    Mortise lock is among the most durable lock – or supposed to be. Buy a good one will last you a lifetime.

    Lousy Locks (But cheap)

    Out of all our locksmith services, we do come across some pretty new mortise locks that had totally broken beyond repair, without sign of abuse.

    Common brands that we replace are some unknown brand (a brand that is not known by any locksmith are 95% come from China)

    We do remember some that we often change/ break due to lockout, like Fuyu (China), Kasa (China), no brand (China), and Tyson (China). Average age is like 3 to 5 years.

    Really Good Durable Locks (Worth every penny)

    We also serviced some, really old lock that just need to top up some oil like Frascio (25 years old Italian), Yale (10 years old British), Chubb (30years old British), Kale (20 years old Turkish).

    We admit, no matter how expansive your electronics are, there are no 100% perfect working electronics. Even some Airbus/ Boeing unfortunate plane has electronic problem.

    Just like this digital lock. Very stable model, but somehow this batch seems to have some problem with card detection.

    After some symptom troubleshooting with client through Whatsapp, we know the problem comes from one of motherboard.

    We bring parts and our own in house technician to the site, do the reapir and reconfiguration on site. 

    Problem solved in 20 minutes.

    In majority cases just a few whatsapp will do (Some cases might be more complicated and need us to go to the site to check)

    Some negative sceptic prospect tell us, they don’t really see how a small company like us  can service the digital lock. It’s not likely we have an electronic engineer in our office.

    There’s where they are wrong. We do HAVE an Electronic guy working in our office. Not technician, not wireman, but a full Bachelor Degree Electronic Engineer. 

    We are proud and capable in servicing digital locks. Good luck finding one in other trading shop.

    Common problem among split type mortise lock.

    Most budget type lever handle has this problem. One of the problem lies in the construction of the spindle. Solid or curved type spindle is not stable enough hence causing the lever to loose or just come off later.

    Choose a hollow/ tube spindle with punch thru tightener. While it cost more, you will not have loose/ tercabut problem. 

    From outside looks the same. It’s the inside. 

    If you did not ask us and simply walk into our showroom, you might think why our lock priced higher than other non locksmith shop. But please realise you are not comparing apple to apple.

    This unit is replacing an existing handleset (Gripset). Many factors has to be considered when installing replacement. 

    1. Does the hole fits? If not, how to modify it? Can it even be modified?
    2. Can the new lock cover the old hole?
    3. Will there be exposed trims from the old lock installation?
    4. Is the door still strong?
    5. Others factors that might only appear on site.

    Not as easy as take out and replace. In  some cases it’s harder than just installing new ones.

    Again and again there will be situation where some fittings like screws, shaft, plate will not fit perfectly to the installation.

    It will make your door looks ugly and unpresentable. What can we do?

    We have to beg a factory to custom made or cut some special size item for you. 1 unit custom item only. On our part, we need to measure, draw using AutoCAD, test-size precision has to be up to 0.5mm for locks, and send to factory. All this work for 1 item, specially made for you.

    But what is the result? A perfect fit installation, looks aesthetic, nice and strong. 

    Why do we go such a distance? Main reason is because we take pride in our works. We feel embarrassed to share a photo of an unpresentable finishes.

    Will any salesman or other seller do that? I doubt it highly.
